Niklas Karlsson carves a spoon

I had the chance to do a workshop with Niklas in Sweden last summer, and also just spend a few days hanging around and getting to know him. Niklas is an awesome guy, very skilled and very sweet.

Some pictures from Täljfest at Sätergläntan-

-Tage Lundqvist, playing an accordion that he made himself.

- a large spoon/ladle carved by Niklas Karlsson

- Barn may have found his Swedish doppleganger?

- I really enjoyed a bit of quiet carving time with Wille.

-Tons of activity in the evenings outside the main wood shop.

Lots of stories and pictures from Sweden, come to the next meeting on Sept 9th. at Mississippi Market.

Nice Crooks are valuable... I always feel very lucky if I am able to split them
and get two spoons from one.

Jögge split this one and got three good spoons out of it!

You don't see that every day.

Curtis Buchanan Milk Painting

* John mentioned this video during our last meeting as it relates to the mixing and use of milk paint.  Curtis is a very well-respected windsor chair maker, and he has an unassuming and easy-going style... this is one of a series of over 50 videos that he has posted that lead you through his process of making windsor chairs.

A nice little 7 minute video from Barn, it illustrates excellent axe-handling skills. Barn prefers a long-handled hollowing knife typically called a Twca cam... mostly attributed to a Welsh-style of carving, but this style of knife is seen in lots of other places as well.

Tonight! don't miss the opening event of the spoon show at the Landmark Center in St. Paul... details here: http://www.galleryofwoodart.org/current.html
This is a photo of the kitchen wall at Sätergläntan craft school in Sweden. These serving spoons get used everyday for every meal in their dining room... some are 30 years old!
